La gloria de Dios es para todas las naciones

Introducción: Había una vez, un niño desobediente se salió en su trici del lugar que sus papás le habían designado.

¿Por qué hacemos panorama bíblico?

• Es la historia que Dios escribió en toda la Biblia.
• Es para conocer cada libro.
• Es porque hay que responder al mensaje: No digo “sentir el mensaje” sino “Responder al mensaje” específicamente por el libro de Jonás…veremos que no es suficiente “sentir” ni menos “saber” sino que hay que responder.

Jonás es nuestro 5º de 12 profetas y uno de los tempranos. Vivía más o menos por el año 770 a.C., más o menos en un periodo de declive de Asiria.

Pero, hoy quiero que escuchemos la historia de Jonás, quiero que escuches y que pienses. Mira, si tienes una pregunta, si algo no te parece entendible, escribe las preguntas. Estoy seguro que el autor del libro (sea Jonás u otro) escribió el libro para provocar preguntas y respuestas. Entonces sé que no es una película, que somos gente visuales, pero traten de escuchar, traten de decir “guau” en las partes raras y traten de hacer preguntas. Porque en fin, el libro TERMINA con una pregunta.

¡Hace 8 días celebramos 2 años como iglesia! Estamos tan agradecidos a Dios por Su misericordia y bondad y por las vidas cambiadas que hemos visto. Hemos pasado por gozo, y lágrimas, mucho trabajo y más risa y Dios sigue fiel.

Pues aproveché la ocasión a predicar sobre la oración, usando como modelo Colosenses 1, la oración de Pablo por los colosenses. Sólo avanzamos como iglesia como oramos…

A Dios le damos gracias y le pedimos unos por otros
Colosenses 1:1-23

¿Cómo conociste a alguien importante en tu vida? Conocí a Barbara-Lee en Tijuana hace 18 años. Conocí a Drew hace casi 13 años. Hace exactamente 9 años conocí a Gavin y Fiona aquí en Hospital Benefecencia. Hace casi 5 años conocí a Daniel en una conferencia. Etc….
Hoy vamos a estudiar una carta de un misionero que ni conocía a las personas a quienes escribía. No tenía 5 años, ni 3 ni 1 con ellos. Pero tenía un amor grande para ellos y lo que les dice tiene mucha aplicación a nuestra relación. Entonces, 2 años después de que nos conocimos como iglesia, como familia, quiere retarnos en el área de la oración. ¿Cómo oras por los que conoces? ¿Cómo debemos orar unos por otros? Claro, oramos por las peticiones los domingos y en grupos pequeños. Pero ¿oras por mi? ¿Oro por ti? ¿Cómo lo podemos hacer?

August activities…
Well, that didn’t take long! We jumped back into activities right away, with football camp. That went very well, averaging 45 kids, having a blast, and sharing the Gospel via the story of the Exodus. A special thanks to Fellowship Christian (http://www.fellowshipchristian.org/) of Springfield, OH for their hard work and blessing to us. After that we were getting settled back home, into ministry, the life of the church here and getting ready for school. We are so thankful for our church. They weren’t sitting around waiting for the Glessners to get back! They’ve started new ministries, cared for the hurting and needy, continued teaching and discipling, and managed just fine without us! Truly, we are part of a multinational team here, not a one-man-band.

Un amor que nunca se rinde, nunca se da por vencido*

Oseas

¿Cómo es Dios como una Estrella de una telenovela? Es una pregunta absurda, pero eso es lo que parece el libro de Oseas. Hay una pareja luchando con infidelidad, hay hijos de paternidad incierta, hay amenazas de violencia, lenguaje dramática con emociones fuertes. ¿Por qué está todo eso en la Biblia, además, implicando a Dios en el rollo?

Es porque en Oseas, vemos que el amor de Dios para nosotros es un amor que nunca se rinde, nunca se da por vencido, que siempre busca lo mejor para nosotros. Y lo mejor es Él. No hay nada mejor en el universo que Dios.

This is a sermon I was privileged to share with Sunset Bible Church. I’m going to try to resurrect things here, and one thing will be to post sermons. This may (or may not) be more active down in Mexico where every sermon in our church is new :). I was privileged to finish the sermon series on Acts that the pastors were preaching, so the sermon covers Acts 21-28. A big chunk, to be sure, but we can learn from Scripture in large portions as well as in small. (It doesn’t lose the property of inspiration when you read lots of it!)

There’s an article in the New Yorker (via Tim Challies) about euthanasia in Belgium. The main story of the article is a man looking for answers to what happened to his mother, who suffered from depression all her life and in the end committed doctor-assisted suicide. The story is both heartbreaking and troubling. Troubling, for all the baggage that comes with euthanasia and because it portrays a society careening down a road to self-destruction. Heartbreaking because of the woman and her son. She found no help in modern psychiatry, only useless platitudes. Her son has found no answers. Sadly, neither does he appear to have philosophical foundations to mount an argument against the secular idea of a human being as Autonomous Self-fulfillment Machine.

But what got me really thinking was Luke 7:36-50, my Bible reading for the day, which I picked up immediately after reading the New Yorker article. What a powerful contrast it is. A woman with no hope comes to Jesus, braving the scorn of all the best of her society. He receives her with grace, gives her dignity with his response to the leaders, and deals with the reality of her sin (which Luke declines to identify) not by brushing it off, but with forgiveness. Jesus is who the Belgian lady needed. And all her enlightened secular society could offer was…death. So sad.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10)

We filmed it on the property to give people an idea of where we’re talking about.
