We are pretty sure that's just a joke, but it IS printed on the bottles of a
major soft-drink company here in Mexico (which will remain nameless because they
haven't paid us an endorsement yet!) This month Tim preached through
Matthew's account of the nativity story. The themes of redemption,
obedience and above all God's gracious control of events are a welcome antidote
to the omnipresent commercialism of our world. |

December is done and 2008 with it. We had a good month. At our
church Christmas dinner on the 14th we had too few tables and chairs (a good
problem to have) but plenty of food and fun. Some of the young ladies
wrote and directed a puppet sketch for children. We wound Bible
studies and other activities down the week before Christmas. As we did
so, it was special to reflect on the growth we saw in people's lives this
year: decisions made to follow Jesus, maturity and commitment to God and to
the church. Since then we've had a steady stream of visitors over for
dinner before relaxing a bit, post-Christmas. |

Right now we're looking to the future. Most of
our 2009 here in Puebla will be transitioning out of leadership here and
planning for our year away. In January we will be starting to ready
the new church building for use (remember that?). We hope to move in
by March, when we will be hosting a medical team. Tim will be working
closely with Chris and the leaders, but will also be pulling back--anything
that happens at church needs to come from others, or it won't continue when
we are gone. Barbara-Lee will continue passing off the children's
ministries to Laura and others. |

We had dinner with our landlords last week and they confirmed that when we
leave they will be moving back into the house, so it won't be available for
us to move back into in 2010. So now we will be looking for a
place to store our stuff while we are gone. We are also making plans
to visit a report to supporters and churches over 2009-10. Our hope
then is to return to Pueblo Nuevo (our neighborhood) to start a church here.
We're very good procrastinators (at least Tim is), so it's kind of fun to be
planning things so far in advance! |
