Saturday night we asked you: "Tomorrow in Mexico we move ahead to Daylight Savings Time. So, the question is: how many people will arrive even close to on time? Tune in tomorrow for the answer!" That REALLY put the pressure on--us, to write back today with the answer. Well, here's the answer: we were about normal--people usually arrive 15, 20, or 30 minutes after our start time (11 am) and it was about that way today. We maybe had on the low side of "normal" attendance (our new normal is 35-45, rather than the previous 15-30), but a decent group. OK, we did make a couple of reminder phone calls, but mostly everyone remembered. TRIVIA: What year did Mexico start Daylight Savings Time? (answer below) POLL: what's YOUR funniest personal "forgot to change the clock" story? (and we all have one!)
We have had an encouraging month of March. Tim is doing three "Chronological Bible studies" (from New Tribes) and those have been going very well. If you want our opinion (or even if not!) there is very little that beats working your way through the Bible with someone. Most people here (and there) have almost no foundation in the basics of the Bible, so this is a crucial way to teach about God's person and character, human sinfulness and helplessness, God's grace, and the faith of biblical heroes. In church we are working our way through the gospel of Mark. It at least has been a blessing to the preachers (Tim, Chris, and Rick) as we work our way through the life of Jesus. Hopefully our audience is gaining from it as well. On March 11, we enjoyed about 60 people at our Picnic Sunday. The youth group has just finished a series on dating--which seems to have scared everyone away. In March, the numbers there have really dwindled. Sometimes that's just due to a natural ebb & flow, but we're trying to think about what we're doing and aiming for with that group. We also completed training for our Alpha course and will begin in April. It appears to be an excellent tool for reaching out to unbelievers. Our hope is to follow that up in the spring with the Chronological Bible study in the fall.
Things are going well with Christian as he and Tim work together. We are doing a few Bible studies together and a few apart. On March 17 we had a farewell party for Rick & Carol Hudson. It was a happy & sad time, as we celebrated 22 years of ministry in Puebla with many of their old friends and partners in ministry. They left on the 18th and are transitioning into Stateside ministry now. We have also enjoyed having Barbara-Lee's parents here for a couple of weeks.
In April we look forward to a couple of slower weeks the first two weeks. Mexico slows down for Semana Santa and we've kind of taken a cue from that. We will be doing a sunrise service on Resurrection Sunday and going camping with the youth the following week. And after that our studies various other people-meetings will continue.
PRAISE
1. This past Tuesday, a young lady named Erica accepted Christ as her Savior after Tim shared the Gospel with her. This is significant a. in and of itself: a new daughter of God! b. because it was through the work of one of the ladies in the church, Eida, who is doing a number of Bible studies. That's
2. Progress in our Bible studies, and the opportunities ahead.
3. Safety in another minor accident last month. After two years of uneventful driving we're getting our "baptism of fire"!
4. We mentioned Vicente last month, and he stopped by to visit us. Tim had a good talk with him. Thanks for praying for him. Please continue.
5. Our friend Miguel got a job a couple weeks ago. It's in Mexico City so he's gone during the week. We're trying to work out how to continue our Bible study with them.
PRAYER
1. Please pray for our Easter service. In the past we have had difficulty getting the building open for special events. Pray for the logistics to be worked out and for God to be honored as we celebrate Christ's resurrection.
2. Please pray for wisdom as we evaluate and decide what to do with the youth meeting in our neighborhood.
3. A single mother and her daughters have been coming to church. The girls are very enthusiastic about being there. Please pray for their salvation.
4. Thank you for your prayers for Dan. His progress seems to be about as expected, with ups and downs. He and his family have glorified God through all of this. If you wish to follow his progress the best way to do so is his family's blog at: http://www.checkinondan.blogspot.com/.
5. Please pray for Isabeli, a young lady seeking God's direction in her life.
Grace be with you.
Tim, Barbara-Lee, Drew, Gavin, Fiona
TRIVIA Answer: In 1996, mostly to keep Mexico in synch with corresponding U.S. time zones. This year the U.S. moved DST up 3 weeks but Mexico remained the same.
