It's been a while since we've written, and, yes, we'll be happy to use the babies and Christmas busy-ness as an excuse! We were able to take a few weeks off after the twins were born and then ease back into things. But things quickly got back into full swing and we'll list a few of the highlights: November 9-11 the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association broadcast a series of evangelistic messages and a film on prime-time Mexican TV. Our church members invited friends and family to hear them, shared their own testimonies and invited them to accept Christ. We were delighted that a young lady, Laura, accepted Christ in our home the first night. The best thing was to involve people in the church in efforts to share with their friends and family. Another important event was a church meeting to discuss our goals and plans. We were greatly encouraged in November and December by new families and growth in the lives of our regulars. At Christmas we enjoyed all of Tim's family being here with us--even his sister Jana who shocked all the other family members by showing up all the way from Togo, West Africa! It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime Christmas! Our Christmas Eve service was encouraging, as we packed everyone into a house for a memorable service.
The new year is full of the anticipation of God's working. By far the major development is that Rick and Carol Hudson, our co-workers and mentors here, will be returning to the U.S. this coming March to work in EBM's office. As a result, we, along with Christian Cruz, will be taking the primary leadership role in the church. The church voted Chris & Tim as co-pastors in December and they assumed responsibilities January 1. So there are many opportunities and challenges ahead of us this year. We are working to coordinate and establish studies and ministries in the church by training church members to assume responsibility and ownership of the church. It's both exciting and daunting. We regularly realize just how inadequate we are for the task--all the better for God to be glorified in what He does here in 2007.
In light of that here are some opportunities for you to participate in God's work with us:
PRAISE
1.Our time with Tim's family was awesome, really great. We are so thankful they could be here with us.
2.For our children. Gavin and Fiona continue to grow and develop. They have to be the easiest twins ever (and here’s the hard, objective evidence for that: they sleep very well, they sleep all through the night, and they don’t fuss much). In the last couple weeks they've become real smilers--so Glessner Giggles are probably right around the corner! They're starting to use their hands to grab at toys and Mama's hair. Drew is happily back in school, building things, and creating his own super-heroes.
3.Tim's sister, Jana, had a safe trip here and then a safe, though semi-eventful (it's a good story if you want to hear it) trip back to Togo (West Africa).
4.Praise God for new families at church. It's fun to have our meeting-place full on Sunday mornings!
PRAYER
1.We’re going to start correcting Gavin’s right foot, which is twisted. He's going to have a series of casts, each for 2 weeks, lasting 4 or 5 months. It’s no big deal, but we always appreciate prayer for our kids!
2.Please pray for us, Tim especially as we start working on our own without the Hudsons. They will be here through the end of March, but officially now, Tim & Christian Cruz are co-pastors. Please pray for our relationship (Tim’s & Chris’) as we work together in the ministry, that we will be like-minded and truly work together. Chris just graduated from college, is a seminary graduate, will be working part-time at the church and at another (web-design) part-time job, and long-term feels called to missions in India. We're sure he would appreciate your prayer, too.
3.In light of that, please pray for wisdom as Chris and Tim plan for the church’s direction and activities (calendar of preaching, events, Bible studies, etc.)
4.Please pray for continued increase in attendance and growth among regulars. One particular need is for a broken marriage to be resolved. Pray for courage for the believing wife (saved fairly recently) to obey God's Word and honor Him, and for the salvation of the unbelieving husband.
We feel our need for your prayers more than ever. It is probably no exaggeration to say that we are at a critical juncture in the life of the church here. By God's grace we will move forward and see His "mighty hand and outstretched arm"
(Deut. 26:8) at work. Thank you for standing with us now.
